Have you ever thought about the amount of time, energy and work you put into raising your children? It is a rewarding undertaking, but it truly is a life long commitment. There are the baby and toddler years where you need to do everything for them. There are the pre-school and early elementary school years where you need to help teach the basic skills they need to get a good education. There are the teenage years where there are times when you would pay money for someone to take them off your hands, and then there are the early adult years when they are testing their independence and starting to build their own family structure. Each stage has its pitfalls and its blessings. In hindsight I would not give up one minute of the experience. We are at the stage where our children are done with their education. Our youngest graduated from college this spring and has landed a job in her field. Our oldest is married and she and her husband are looking for a house to buy. They have both found steady jobs; unfortunately these jobs have taken them to another state so they are living six hundred miles from home. We told them to find a real estate agency that they felt comfortable with in looking for their home. It is difficult when you are looking for property in an area where you do not know anyone. We felt it was important that they have a real estate agency that was working with them so that their interests would be looked out for in the buying process. Their first thought was to look into the multiple listings and find properties that they were interested in and then contact the listing agents. We explained that the listing agent is going to be representing the seller and that they should have an agent from a real estate agency that was going to help represent them and their interests. Most real estate agents are very trust worthy and up front about the properties they list, however it is helpful, especially in a situation where you do not know anyone in an area, to have help to represent your needs. Our daughter and her husband went to the local office of a national real estate agency and talked with a realtor. They explained their situation and the type of home they were looking for and the price range they were comfortable with. They feel they are working together well and that their interests will be looked after.
