Regardless of how large your salary is, you are probably always interested in ways to save more money. Most of us don’t even realize how much money we spend on little things. If you utilize some money saving tips you can help your bank account grow without sacrificing too much. A great place to start is with journaling your spending habits.

For at least a week it’s a great idea to carry a notebook with you that you can use to write down everything you purchase. This includes every cup of coffee and package of gum. You’ll be surprised when you add up all those little things like lunch out for a week. Some of the best money saving tips are to make your cup of coffee at home in the morning and take it to work with you and also bring a bagged lunch at least a few days a week. The savings just from those two things can add up to hundreds of dollars a month.

If you drive to work you may be able to save a few dollars in this area. Many companies have a number of employees who all live in the same area of the city. Carpooling is an old idea that just makes great money sense. Another one of the money saving tips that deals with transportation is to consider taking the bus or subway or even riding your bike if you live close enough.

 Bit of History
Work-family conflicts—the trade-offs of your money or your life, your job or your child—would not be forced upon women with such sanguine disregard if men experienced the same career stalls caused by the-buck-stops-here responsibility for children.
—Letty Cottin Pogrebin (20th century)

Avid readers often purchase several new books each month to read. When you know the next bestseller is being released this week it can be almost impossible to wait to buy it. This impatience usually translates to a premium price for the book. A few money saving tips for the literary fan include joining a book club where you can often get a number of books for free with the requirement that you purchase a few at regular prices within a few months. Another wonderful idea is to get a library card. The cost is nominal and you can take out several books a week for free.

When it comes to vacations you can keep a few extra dollars in your pocket with a little know how. Most families spend a lot of money on food during their time away from home. If you ask for a hotel room with a small refrigerator you’ll save money. Buy some breakfast cereal, milk and orange juice and you’ve already saved a bundle in breakfast funds. Some other money saving tips to consider is to eat larger meals midday and then something like a sandwich at dinner time. The reason is that most restaurants increase their prices in the evening. If you have an entrée at lunch time it will fill you up and cost less.

Making a few changes in your spending ways can mean a lot more money left over at the end of the month. You’ll be so proud of yourself once you balance your budget and keep it on an even keel.
